Out on the Edge of Town

Or is it north Chino? Some neighborhood residents around the intersection of Central Avenue and Phillips Boulevard say even they get confused over where the boundaries of the two cities and pockets of San Bernardino County meet. And Ontario isn't too far down the road. Suburbia is pushing its way into south Montclair.

Whether or not your geographical bearings are intact, you'll notice the obvious: new two-story houses colliding with rural large-acre properties sporting roosters, citrus trees, humble homes, and a glimpse into what the area used to look like. In the 1860s, Louis Phillips steadily purchased more than 12,000 acres of ranch land throughout Diamond Bar, Pomona, La Verne, and even Ontario. If he didn't own land in this area at one time, his holdings surely weren't far off."

'Loopholes' Really Ploy to Raise Taxes

With a cooling economy resulting in a $16 billion budget deficit, some in Sacramento and other parts of Southern California are now talking about closing so-called tax loopholes as one approach to balancing the budget. They argue that these "loopholes" only benefit the rich and should be eliminated.

Meet-and-Greet Community Program for New Chino Homeowners

Two families will receive Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity houses on 10th Street between B and C streets once construction is finished later this year.

Construction won't begin until the summer at the earliest, Chino housing program manager Chris Corbin said. Even though Habitat has the land, building plans must still go through the approval process from the city.

$327,000 Street Improvements in Los Serranos Neighborhood Chino Hills

The City Council has agreed to spend $327,000 for improvements to streets, sidewalks, storm drains, curbs and gutters in the Los Serranos area of the city.

Lois Burdett, who has Chino Hills Home rental properties in that neighborhood, said she has some concerns about the next phase of improvements because of problems with the first phase.
